week 2

This week my main focus was to get started on my lip sync animation. First I spent a while finding rigs and comparing them. I wanted to find one that had all of the controls I needed without it being too complicated or difficult to animate with.

After I found a rig that I was happy with I wanted to become more familiar with it. In order to do that I started with the facial rig. I started moving around each controller and seeing what each of them did. Then I pulled up 2 reference pictures and tried to copy them on the models face to see if I could make it match the expression. From the expression tests I found that the face rig is easy to work with but has some clipping where you can see the inside of the mouth from different positions. I also learned that It is much easier to work with this model if you hide some of the controllers especially around the face because there are so many concentrated there that it is easy to miss click and move the wrong thing on accident.

For some final practice I found a reference pose and tried to copy the full body position onto the rig. This was easier than working the face rig and was a nice warmup to get ready for blocking. The only issue I ran into during this part of the process was the extra controllers on this rig but once I got some of the ones I didn't want hidden. It was easier to move on without getting distracted by them.

The next thing I needed for this project was to record some reference videos for the audio I have. I called a friend to help with a close up shot and some facial expressions because I think she could do better than me at that part. Then I used her input and some ideas that I already had to record a full body reference. I'm pretty happy with what I recorded but I think I might go back and do a new version  once I start animating and see something I want to change or exadurate.

Last but not least I have been meeting with the producer and designer of  Fungi Frenzy this week and I have been assigned cards to start working on the project. I now have access to their GDD and google drives where I can find the models I am going to rig and animate. The only thing I am waiting on is for them to source an indie license so I can make things for the project legally.
